Is there staff on-site?

The owners of Silver Mountain Resort & Cabins live just down the street and are on the property almost every day. They are available to help you at any time.

What is the availability of the pool?

The pool is typically open Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend depending on weather.  The pool opens around 10am daily and closes at 9pm.  During inclement weather or thunderstorms the pool may be closed early for safety.

When is Check-in Time?

Check in any time after 3:00 PM Mountain Time. There are no early check-ins and all check-ins are contactless. You will receive e-mail instructions three days prior to your arrival date.  On the counter in the office is a map of the property that shows the location of your cabin and your assigned parking spot. Do not park in any spot other than the one assigned to your cabin and do not park on the grass.

When is Check-out Time?

10:00 AM.

Do the cabins have air conditioning?

Yes, they all have an air conditioner. Silver Mountain #2 has central air.

Do the cabins have heat?

Yes. Silver Mountain #1 and Silver Mountain #2 both share a thermostat that is set at a comfortable setting. In the other cabins, each room has its own thermostat that controls the electric heaters so you are able to adjust it to your own individual preference.

Are pets allowed?

Pets are permitted on case-by-case scenario and availability of pet friendly units. If approved, there is a $75/pet fee and a $200 damage deposit.

Is there Wi-Fi?

Yes, we have wireless Internet. However, we DO NOT guarantee that it will work all the time since thunderstorms can interrupt our service.  While we have upgraded the wireless network, the cabins with the best service are Mountain View Suite, Silver Mountain #2 and Silver Moon, as they have a better signal. Boulder Hill Barn, Coon Hollow and Silver Lining have the lowest signal strength.

How far is the nearest grocery store?

Larger chain grocery stores are located in Rapid City, about 13 miles from Silver Mountain Cabins. Safeway on Mount Rushmore Road and Walmart are the closest.  Hill City and Keystone are both about 15 minutes away from the cabins.  Hill City offers Krull's, a nice grocery store for a small town.  Keystone only has convenience stores.

What is in the cabins?

All cabins are fully equipped and furnished. Bedding, towels, dishes, kettles, dish soap, hand soap, paper towels, tissues, toilet paper, coffee filters, coffee, salt and pepper and the first round of s'mores are provided.

What is the weather like in the summer months?

Days are warm, but evenings can be cool. You may need a sweatshirt or jacket. We sometimes have quickly passing thunderstorms in the afternoons.

Do the cabins have grills and firepits?

Yes! Every cabin has a gas grill and private firepit area.

How far is Mt. Rushmore?

8.6 miles from Silver Mountain Cabins.

How far are restaurants from the cabins?

Several restaurants are located just miles from the cabins.  We recommend The Alpine in Hill City, Murphy's Pub and Grill in Rapid City, and the Powder House Grill on the way to Keystone.

What is there to do at the cabins?

Silver Mountain Cabins has an in-ground, heated swimming pool with a rock waterfall. We have campfire pits, a playground, horse tire swing and a large grassy area for yard games. You will also find plenty of great hiking and biking trails within minutes of the property.  The owners are happy to make recommendations for things to do in the area.

Do you have laundry on site?

Silver Mountain #2 includes a washer/dryer unit. The rest do not, but you can find laundromats in both Keystone and Hill City, about 10 minutes from the cabins. There are also laundromats in Rapid City, located about 15 minutes away.
